Quagliarella happy with goals and “crucial three points”

It had to be him. When Samp needed a hero, it was once again captain Fabio Quagliarella who produced the goods. His double helped Doria come back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 at an empty Marassi on Sunday.

Speaking after the game he said: “At the end of the first half, trailing 1-0 against Verona, the surprise package of the season, was a tough situation to be in.

“We did well to react, drawing level and getting the winner. That earned us three massive points. I knew it was a big penalty, also because of the results of our rivals.”

The forward added: “The setting was surreal. This is not an easy situation, when it’s played behind closed doors it’s a different sport. I directed my celebration at the camera to dedicate the goal to the fans.

“As for the decree – it’s clear and should be respected. My thoughts are with those families that are suffering and the doctors and nurses that are working day and night to keep us safe.”
