Quagliarella shoulders responsibility after Parma loss
Despite a difficult evening for himself and his team, Fabio Quagliarella fronted up following Sampdoria’s defeat at home to Parma and gave his thoughts on the encounter.
Speaking after the match, he said: “We shouldn’t have lost today. I missed an important penalty, which would have allowed to us to at least draw. I take responsibility as captain – I didn’t hit it well. I can do better – we can all do better.
“In the first half we played within ourselves – we knew how important this game was, and they went and scored from their only real chance.
“In the second half we were always on the attack – I’m sure that, had I scored, everything would have changed.
“It’s a shame but now it’s all eyes on the derby, which is now of dual significance, because of our situation in the league. It means a lot to us but we know it’ll be tough. We need to put this loss behind us.
“I’m very happy about the contract renewal – I’d like to thank the club, my team-mates and the fans. I wanted to celebrate with them and I hope to do so soon.”
