Bruno Fernandes: “Big point for morale”

He was inches away from scoring against Bologna, at Cagliari he did score but it ultimately counted for nothing, this time he can afford to smile because his rocket blast enabled Sampdoria to come away with a precious point.

And Bruno Fernandes knows just how important his late, late strike was for the team.

“We’re having a bit of a tough time of things,” the Portuguese began. “We’re playing well but not getting the results. There was only one team in it today. We created more chances and wanted to win it more than they did, so even a draw leaves us a bit disappointed.”

“However, snatching an equaliser right at the death like that is an important sign. We’re calm. If we’d won today, we’d have caught up with some of the sides above us in the table but it’s a long season.”

Finally, he commented on his role in the team and revealed who his goal was for.

“I’m happy to play in central midfield or in the hole – I don’t mind as long as I’m playing! I want to be in the starting XI.

“I’d like to dedicate the goal to my wife Anna and my daughter Matilde who will be born soon.”
