Maroni: “Samp are a big club, I hope to have a great season”

Mate, asado and Paulo Dybala. Plus a bit of Leo Messi for good measure. Those are some of the things Gonzalo Maroni is passionate about, and the young Argentine is hoping to replicate his fellow countrymen’s success at Sampdoria.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has joined from Boca Juniors having spent last season at Talleres but he began his career at Instituto di Cordoba, his hometown club – the same as Dybala.

Now, after featuring at the recent U20 World Cup, Maroni is ready for Serie A.

“I’m joining a big Italian club and I’ll give my all for this team. I know there have been lots of Argentines who have done well here before me and I just hope to be able to follow in their footsteps,” he told Samp TV in his first interview.

“I have a decent long-range shot on me and I like to be on the ball. I try to get into the box to provide assists and score goals. I hope to have a great season.”
