Internationals: Thorsby celebrates, Yoshida and Japan enjoy huge win

Here are the results of yesterday’s international fixtures involving Blucerchiati players.

Japan. Maya Yoshida played the first 64 minutes of Japan’s annihilation of Mongolia as they look to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Japanese put 14 goals past a woeful Mongolia, with Yuya Osako scoring a hattrick and Sho Inagaki and Kyogo Furuhashi both bagging doubles.

Norway. Morten Thorsby turned in an excellent 90-minute display in midfield as Norway got back to winning ways after their heavy loss to Turkey. They beat Montenegro 1-0 in Podgorica thanks to Alexander Sorloth’s goal. With this important away win, Norway moved up to six points in Group G, level with Montenegro and the Netherlands.

Czech Republic. Czech Republic slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Wales in Cardiff in their third Group E match of the World Cup qualifying campaign. There were red cards for both teams, as former Samp man Patrik Schick and Connor Roberts were given their marching orders. Jakub Jankto started the match and was subbed off after 82 minutes.

Senegal. Keita Balde came on as substitute with Senegal trailing in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Eswatini. Cheikhou Kouyaté made it 1-1 in the sixth minute of stoppage time and Senegal finished top of Group I with 14 points.

Slovenia Under-21s. Nik Prelec’s team were knocked out of the European Under-21 Championship, after a 4-0 defeat by Italy left them bottom of Group B. Italy went through in second place behind Spain. Prelec played out on the left and was replaced at half time by Tamar Svetlin.
